SINGH, ARTIST- A glance at his life and works
Sukhdev Singh was born on 23.8.1940 at Village Gondara
of District Faridkot. He passed his matriculation from
nearby Village Bargari. Right From childhood, he was keenly
interested in fine art. He did his Diploma in Drawing
Teacher’s Training in first class first from the Punjab
He jointed Govt. Service as Drawing Teacher at Balbir
Govt. High School, Faridkot in 1962. His talent was recognized outside Punjab also and he passed
G.D. Art degree from Bombay in 1965. He has been a keen student of literature, therefore, he passed his M.A. in English from Punjabi University in 1980.
Sukhdev Singh was inspired by a Village uncle S. Bakshish Singh who infused in him the enthusiasm for studying literature. He learned the art of visualizing life situations and environments on his canvas under the patronage of his uncle. He pursued the art of painting with love, passion and utmost sincerity.
Two of his poster-paintings were published by Punjab Education Deptt. under the scheme “To prepare motivational visuals” financed by UNICEF. On the 25th Punjab Day,
Distt. Bathinda administration honoured him for his contribution in the field of art. He displayed his works at many solo shows and combined exhibitions.
He participated in “Kala Mela” at Jalandhar organized by Punjab Art Heritage Appejay College of fine arts and his painting ‘on the spot workshop’ was adjudged first. N.Z.C.C. Patiala has organized exhibition of his paintings at ‘Banasar’ Art Gallery Sheesh Mahal, Patiala on Dec.,1997. Exhibition of his paintings at ‘Teachers Home’, Bathinda in 1998 was widely acknowledged and appreciated by the people at large.
His paintings were prominently displayed at Bathinda by
Sursagar Kala Manch in 2006 which were highly appreciated by the spectators. He has been honoured for his work of art by many Govt. and NGOs in the state.
